BURR/VAN HATTUM LAW OFFICES

441 CHERRY SE
GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN

Late in 2001, Lott3 was engaged by James Booth Burr to design and oversee the renovation of an early 20th Century carriage house in the Cherry Hill Historic District of Grand Rapids, Michigan. With severe time restraints – Mr. Burr and his associates had to move in 30 days from the day of first contact – the Lott3 team began the work in earnest. Lott3 worked closely with not only the Ownership group but also with Past Perfect (Historical Preservation Consultants) the General Contactor David Graf. The investigation and selective demolition of the existing structure began immediately. Using cues from the demolition discovery we were able to make quick and appropriate design decisions regarding plan configuration, ceiling configuration, and basic finish materials. The close working contact between all of the consultants and the quick decision making by the Ownership group enabled us to complete a historically appropriate renovation, an on-time construction completion, and an on-time move.
