ENGLISH RESIDENCE
LOWELL, MICHIGAN
Set
on 60 acres of wooded land with a secluded lake on its western boundary,
The English House draws on rural precedents and the English Familys
own dynamic to create a modern and unique living space. The planning
revolves around the needs of the family to be together and to be
apart oftentimes in the very same space. This, sometimes
contradictory, notion moved us to separate the living areas and
the circulation spaces along a North/South axis allowing not only
the living areas to take full advantage of the lake views to the
West but also allowing free flow of people through the house. The
main living area on the first floor holds kitchen, dining, and seating
areas under custom fabricated trusses that provide both grandeur
and scale while managing the daylight with its prominent clerestory
windows. The first floor also contains the guest suite at the North
end of the plan and the master suite at the South end of the plan.
The childrens bedrooms are located directly below the master
suite in the partial walkout basement directly adjacent to the familys
basement activity room.
